So I should be talking about my final weeks of my marathon training right now, but because of a freak accident three weeks ago, that has long been scrapped. Well, scrapped may be a strong word, but put on hold until later this year.So what happened? Well, I have been in a constant battle with a tree, which is not in my yard, over the last two months over who will control my pool. The tree’s goal was to constantly fill my pool with evil yellow flowers and turn my pool green, and my goal was to keep it shiny and blue.
This became a daily battle in which I had to clean out the skimmer basket and hose down the filters and skim the top of the pool with my magic net. One night, in my battle against evil, I had removed the basket and filters, set them aside and went about my fight with the Darth Maul skimming the surface with my net. Not paying attention, I did not realize I was getting close to the deep open hole in which the basket normally fills and wouldn’t you know it my right foot went right down the hole. In a matter of .063 seconds my foot went in, I fell forward caught my shin on the rim of the hole then the elbow on the side of the pool and tumbled forward.
Sounds fun right? A quick dip into the pool. The water was nice. Well it was not as fun as it sounded. When I fell forward my shin, which was a foot deep in a hole, slammed up against the side of the hole. Not only did this leave a welt the size of a small child, it left me with a pain that would linger for over a week.
Now if that was all, it wouldn’t be so bad. But that was not the worst part. When my foot went in the hole it hit something in some way that bruised a bone in the bottom of my right forefoot. The pain in my foot gave me a constant droning and thumping for almost three weeks. Even today it still bothers me, but at least I can now walk and hike on it. And this week I will try to run for the first time in three weeks. A long hike this weekend showed me that the pain is not gone, but exercise did not make it worse.
So my plans to run a marathon on minimal but productive training is on hold. It will happen this year, just not on June 5th. So what next? I am still on a quest to get in better shape and do so without spending more than 3 hours or so a week exercising. Tomorrow morning when I wake up I head to Crossfit Forever Strong in Chandler and let Jason and his team beat the you know what out of me.
Why Crossfit training? The more I look at Crossfit training the more I realize it may be exactly what I am looking for. Crossfit is not about hours and hours in the gym training every muscle. Crossfit is about heading into the gym and working big muscle groups very intensely for a short period and then getting on with your life.
I will let you know how the trial period goes. And yes for a short period of time the evil empire did win some battles, but in the end, good won the war over evil and the pool is back to normal, until next spring at least.
Until next time, be productive

Dang, I wish there was a video of that stunt…
It could have made you a small fortune.
