The Productive Dad evolves

So as you can see this blog has lost a lot of steam over the last couple of months. I am going to start transitioning this blog to be a little broader and include a few more topics to keep me inspired to write.

I was giving this blog a lot of thought when Chris Smith, a friend of mine from the real estate industry, sent out a tweet I became obsessed with.

That quote got me thinking about my passions. To decide what my passions are right now I asked myself some questions. What books had I read in the last year? What blogs do I read the most in my RSS reader? The answer was obvious, health, nutrition and productivity blogs.

I like the topic of productivity and love experimenting with productivity tools and systems. But I am not sure I love it so much that I can blog about it three times a week forever. But there are a few other subjects that I am really passionate about which can really build on The Productive Dad theory.

The Productive Dad is going to get a new tag line… I am completely open for suggestions, but as of right now I am leaning towards – Get Real. Get Active. Get Productive.

Get Real
I have done a lot of reading over the last ten months on nutrition, diet and health in general. It has become somewhat of an obsession of mine. The more I read the more convinced I am that many of our problems today such as cancer and other diseases that were almost unheard of a few hundred years ago are caused by our diet and the agricultural revolution.

The Get Real part is going to deal with eating real food. I try to not eat any packaged foods or anything processed. Even my salsa and salad dressings I am now making myself. There are many blogs on the Paleo diet out there, but I am going to really focus on it from a dad’s perspective, for those of us who don’t have a lot of time to really think about it and just want to provide our families with healthy way of living.

Get Active
I love video games and playing Star Wars Lego Wii with my son. I also love watching TV as much as the next guy. But let’s face it, these activities are not helping us and our kids stay healthy. A year ago I gave up all paid TV. We still see the shows we really want online, but we don’t spend hours a day any longer just flipping because that’s what you do when you plop your fat ass on the couch and grab the remote.

Get active is going to concentrate on physical activities for busy dads and their kids. We are going to focus on exercise and even more importantly focus on play!

Get Productive
This section you should be used to if you have read this blog before. I will continue to write about productivity for busy people to help them create more time for play.

I also reserve the right to blog about anything that pops up in my mind not related to any of these topics. My blog, my prerogative. Damn sound like Bobby Brown, that means I really need to end this.

So there it is, the new mission of The Productive Dad. Would love to hear your thoughts.

All in my top 4 things I am working on right now along with:

    Get simple.

It could just be me, but I see quite a few Gen X’ers focusing on these same things as well.

    Nice work pointing it out.
