How to setup your ClickUp notifications for success

New: Listen to this article

Today's article is very focused on ClickUp. If you're using other tools, you will hopefully still find it useful.

I'm at my day job building out a ClickUp dashboard to try and make sense of all the tasks, deadlines, team progress.

And then I stumble upon this card, and it's called the Who's Behind card.

This card shows "Inbox unread notifications" and "Total overdue tasks" for each user in the workspace.

When I went and had a look at it and actually saw the data, it was kind of shocking.

Out of the 18 people in the workspace in my day job, 6 of them (an entire third!) had 100+ unread notifications sitting in their ClickUp inboxes.

This explained why ClickUp hadn't been working too well recently as a way to communicate.

Can you imagine all the chaos? You get all these updates, people asking questions, people trying to assign you tasks...

And then none of the work actually gets done. None of the questions get answered.

People just have too many notifications.

This is why your team keep falling back on apps like Slack and Teams for discussing tickets and ideas.

So what I've done is I've made a five-minute video on how I've set up my notifications in ClickUp and the process that I think everyone in the team needs to go through to set up their own notifications.

I'm sending this out to the workspace now, but I'm going to put it here in the newsletter as well.

And this is very ClickUp focused, but the idea still stands. No matter and what app you're using, you can set up your notifications in a way that suits you.

For me, that means:

  • No email notifications

  • No browser notifications

  • And reduced ClickUp notifications

I'm currently working with a new client in the property management space. It's fascinating to see how different industries can leverage ClickUp to streamline their unique workflows.

This is what I love about my work - helping businesses unlock the full potential of ClickUp, one notification at a time.

If you need personalised help getting your ClickUp workspace into shape, you know where to find me. Let's turn those notifications off and get some work done!
